Charge Density Waves in Electron-Doped Molybdenum Disulfide

We present the discovery of a charge density wave (CDW) ground state in heavily electron-doped molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). This is first observation CDW any d2 (column 6) transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD). The band structure MoS2 distinct from d0 and d1 TMDs which CDWs have been previously observed, facilitating new insight into formation. demonstrate metal–insulator at 85 K, 25 meV gap Fermi level, two modulations, (2√3 × 2√3) R30° 2 2, attributable to surface nesting (FSN) electron–phonon coupling (EPC), respectively. simultaneous exhibition FSN EPC modulations unique among observations states, we discuss this context folding. Our provide route toward resolution controversies surrounding origin TMDs.
